The Tampa Police Department arrested four people in connection with a burglary that occurred at Hibbett Sports following Hurricane Milton.
“This case demonstrates the dedication and hard work of our officers in ensuring that those who take advantage of vulnerable situations, such as natural disasters, are held accountable,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “We are committed to protecting our community and holding those who would commit crime accountable.”
On the evening of October 10, 2024, officers responded to a burglary alarm at the Hibbett Sports store located at 2525 E. Hillsborough Ave. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the storefront had been rammed by a vehicle, and the store had been burglarized. The investigation revealed that thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise, including jerseys, shoes, and other clothing, had been stolen.
Through detailed investigation, Tampa Police gathered information that stolen items from the burglary were being sold from a residence in the 3600 block of N. 28th St.
On October 16, 2024, officers began surveillance of the residence, located at 3608 N. 28th St. 24-year-old Darryl Hill was arrested during a traffic stop a short distance away. A black MLB White Sox baseball cap, pink Nike sweatshirt, and a pair of white/black size 9.5 Air Jordan sneakers, which were all confirmed to be stolen during the burglary, were recovered at the time.
Continued surveillance at the residence in the early hours of October 17, 2024, led to the arrest of 24-year-old Dalanish Weaver and 32-year-old Deontae Hill, who were both observed discarding stolen items from the residence. Weaver is the girlfriend of Darryl Hill; Deontae Hill is the brother of Darryl. They were each arrested and charged with their involvement in the burglary.
An authorized search warrant of the residence in the early hours of October 17, 2024, led to the recovery of a significant amount of stolen merchandise, including clothing, shoes, and empty shoe boxes. At that time, 61-year-old Cheryl Hill, mother of Darryl and Deontae Hill, was arrested and charged in connection to the burglary.
