An 11-year-old Port Orange student was arrested for making a threat of a school shooting.
The Central Florida student, Salvador Orta-Geiringer, is charged with making written threats to kill and making a false report of the use of a firearm.
According to local law enforcement, he sent threatening text messages to classmates with the sole purpose of putting them in fear for their safety.
The young student said he was joking, but wanted to scare people.
There are no jokes when it comes to threats of violence or school shootings, and law enforcement is making sure kids understand that with serious charges. As a deterrent, the Volusia County Sheriff has been publicizing the arrests and the students being taken into custody.
