15-Year-Old Central Florida Student Made Violent Threat to Shoot Up School

A 15-year-old Central Florida student was arrested for making a violent threat to shoot up her school on social media.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the mass shooting threat made by the student at Gaither High School in Tampa.

On August 12th at 10:30am, the School Threat Assessment and Response Team responded to Gaither High School and made contact with 15-year-old Larenn Olsson.

During an interview, Olsson admitted to investigators that she threatened to shoot up her school via a post on Instagram.

She was taken into custody without incident and is facing charges of Written or Electronic Threat to Conduct a Mass Shooting or Act of Terrorism and Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communications Device.

“Today, on the first day back to school, we faced a concerning situation where a student made a violent threat on social media. I am deeply disappointed that such behavior surfaced on what should have been a positive and safe start to the school year,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “However, I want to express my sincere gratitude for our detective’s swift and decisive actions. Their professionalism and vigilance ensured the situation was handled promptly, keeping our schools and community safe.”

This is an ongoing investigation, according to local law enforcement.

A 14-year-old student was also arrested for threats to kill or conduct a mass shooting in Central Florida after a social media post about his new school.
