A man is accused of sexually abusing a child on family vacations at Disney and Orlando resorts in Central Florida.
68-year-old Michael James Geary was arrested earlier this year at a home in Arlington, Virginia and was extradited to the Orange County Jail in Florida.
Geary was charged with sexual battery on a child less than 12 and two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation, which are felonies.
The suspect will be in court for arraignment in Orlando on July 10th.
According to documents, the now-adult 32-year-old victim reported multiple alleged incidents of sexual battery on “family vacations” to Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando in 2001-2003. The accusations were reported to law enforcement in January. Indications are that specific incidents occurred at Disney’s Old Key West Resort and Universal’s Hard Rock Hotel.
According to court records, Orange County Sheriff’s Office sex crimes detectives coordinated controlled calls to the suspect, where he reportedly admitted to what he called “hugging” and said the victim “was not a liar.” Apparently, he called his actions “horrible” but said the actions were “exclusive” to the one victim.
The victim alleged she was abused by Geary between the ages of 10 and 20 years old.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is targeting the specific assaults that took place in Central Florida at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando, not any in Virginia. If convicted on the charges in Central Florida, Geary could face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
