Orlando Woman Sentenced for Double Fatal DUI Crash

A 41-year-old Orlando woman was sentenced for a double fatal DUI crash, killing a 50-year-old and 19-year-old after she disregarded a red light.

Leslie Gehret was sentenced to just over 23 years in the Florida Department of Corrections for causing a fatal crash while driving under the influence of alcohol that killed two people.

On July 9, 2023, Leslie Gehret was driving west on Lake Underhill Road towards Rouse Road when she disregarded a red light and collided with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The collision caused the victims’ vehicle to veer off the road and overturn multiple times.

Tragically, both vehicle occupants, 50-year-old Shane Lloyd and 19-year-old Jakob Lloyd, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

Several witnesses reported seeing Gehret’s vehicle speeding and running the red light just before the collision. Information from the electronic data recorder indicated her speed was 87 to 94 miles per hour at the moment of impact.

Upon examination at the hospital, deputies noted Gehret’s bloodshot eyes and detected the scent of alcohol on her person. Subsequent testing conducted after obtaining a warrant for a blood sample revealed her blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit even five hours after the crash.

At the time of the crash, Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered Gehret was already serving probation stemming from a previous arrest for Driving Under the Influence. Deputies also found Gehret was driving on a suspended license after checking the status of her driver’s license.

Gehret entered a plea for two counts of DUI Manslaughter. She was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 280 months in prison followed by 12 months of probation. Conditions of probation include DUI Counterattack School, permanent driver’s license suspension, 50 community service hours, 10-day vehicle impound or immobilization, cost of prosecution and court cost.

The victim’s family also has the right to restitution.

Additionally, the judge adjudicated her guilty of two counts of Vehicular Homicide and two counts of Driving with a Suspended License with Death or Serious Injury. The sentence for those will run concurrently with 280 months from the DUI Manslaughter.
