Orange County Proclaims ‘Taiwan Day’

Orange County proclaimed Sunday, April 7th as “Taiwan Day,” with a special event commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act. The event will also provide a status update on the recent earthquake in that country.




Sunday, April 7th, marks the 45th Anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act, enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1979. This powerful act formally ushered in a new era of peace, prosperity and security for Taiwan, a key partner in the U.S. trade and the global supply chain.

The Taiwan Relations Act has proven to be a strategic move for the U.S. as Taiwan emerges as a technology superpower in the areas of health, semiconductors and microchips.

Events commemorating the longtime partnership will kick-off throughout America on Sunday, April 7th. Lion Dancers will kick-off the Central Florida event in Orange County. Over 200 people are expected to attend, including representatives from the Taiwanese community and other groups.

Charles Chou, Director General, of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami, and other local leaders from Taiwan will host the event in Orange County, Florida on Sunday, April 7th. Director General Chou, will illustrate the relevance of this act to the U.S. and the Florida Community, by highlighting  future plans of how both countries will strengthen the partnership.

Also, local leadership from Taiwan will address Florida relief efforts for the families impacted by the recent earthquake in Taiwan.

The special event will take place at South Econ Community Park in the Ballroom (3800 S. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando, FL 32829) on Sunday, April 7th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
