Publix Robbery fails day after Store hosts Literacy Program

A man, who implied he was in possession of a handgun, attempted to rob two Publix pharmacies within half hour of each other, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said.  In both robberies, the man fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended and arrested.

At approximately 6:35 pm tonight February 2, 2010 Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a robbery call at a Publix pharmacy at 13850 Landstar Blvd.

Witnesses tell investigators a Hispanic male approximately 25 years old presented a note to the clerk demanding drugs from behind the counter; unsuccessful the suspect fled on foot to another Publix pharmacy at 3972 W Town Center Blvd and at 6:57 pm attempted to rob that pharmacy as well.  The suspect implied he was in possession of a handgun and demanded drugs once again.  Unsuccessful with the second robbery the suspect fled on foot again.

Deputies spotted the suspect, Jose Louis Matos, 29 years, a few blocks away and placed him under arrest.

Matos faces two separate charges of attempted armed robbery.
