A man who tried to rob a food store late last night, got a surprise when his victim tackled him to the floor, removed a knife from the suspect’s pocket and held him until police arrived.
A black man, 27 years, wearing all black entered the Island Food Store on 3011 N. Goldenrod Road, Orlando, around 11:30 pm, on Saturday, January 23rd. The suspect went behind the counter and put his finger to an employee’s head. With a t-shirt wrapped around his finger, the man demanded money. The victim, a black man, 30 years old, grabbed the suspect and body slammed him to the floor. While on the floor, the suspect tried to reach inside his jacket. However, the victim reached inside first, removed a 6 inch butcher knife and held the robber on the floor until Orange County Sheriff’s deputies arrived.
No injuries were sustained.
Jerell Bennett, the suspect is in custody and detectives are continuing with their investigation.
