As the people of Israel are under attack by the terrorist organization Hamas, President Joe Biden made it clear the United States stands with Israel, saying “let there be no mistake: The United States stands with the State of Israel, just as we have from the moment the United States became the first nation to recognize Israel, 11 minutes after its founding, 75 years ago.”
The terrorist attack included thousands of rockets raining down on Israeli cities and Hamas terrorists crossing into Israel and killing not only Israeli soldiers but also Israeli civilians. Hamas terrorists murdered innocent people, wounded many more, and took hostages just days after Israel marked the holiest of days on the Jewish calendar.
The Israel Defense and Security Forum (IDSF) is appalled by the heinous attack on Israel and called for an unprecedented Israeli response. Israel said it is “at war” and launched air strikes on Gaza after the surprise attack.
“This unprecedented terror attack must generate an unprecedented Israeli response,” said Brigadier General (Res.) Amir Avivi, who is founder and chairman of IDSF, and former deputy commander of the IDF Gaza division. “Everything that Israel has done in the last 20 years was not enough. Israel must now destroy the Hamas leadership and all of its capabilities. Israel needs to fundamentally alter the situation in Gaza, sending a resounding message that Hamas will not survive this audacious attack on Israel.”
President Biden signaled support for Israel’s right to defend itself against the terrorist attacks.
“You know, when I spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu this morning, I told him the United States stands with the people of Israel in the face of this terrorist assaults,” President Biden added. “Israel has the right to defend itself and its people. Full stop. There is never justification for terrorist acts.”
Brigadier General (Res.) Amir Avivi also connected the dots to Iran and larger issues facing the Middle East. “This is not just a battle between Israel and Hamas, it is a war with Iran,” he said. “Israel is defending itself against Iran. Iran has committed Hamas to a suicide mission to prevent the US-Israel-Sunni alliance and peace in the Middle East. Every single building used by Iran and Hamas for war is a civilian building. Iran and Hamas are intentionally exposing their own civilians to become martyrs against every single counter-strike by Israel.”
Support for Israel is strong with Democrats and Republicans. Former President Donald Trump expressed strong support for Israel, but placed blame on current President Biden.
“These Hamas attacks are a disgrace and Israel has every right to defend itself with overwhelming force,” former President Trump said. “Sadly, American taxpayer dollars helped fund these attacks, which many reports are saying came from the Biden Administration. We brought so much peace to the Middle East through the Abraham Accords, only to see Biden whittle it away at a far more rapid pace than anyone thought possible. Here we go again.”
Florida Governor and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis also made his support of Israel clear, and also put the focus on Iran.
“Israel is now under attack,” Governor DeSantis said. “I stand with Israel. America stands with Israel. Not only they have a right to defend themselves, they have a duty to defend themselves against these Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists. Iran has helped fund this war against Israel, and Joe Biden’s policies that have gone easy on Iran has helped to fill their coffers. Israel is now paying the price for those policies. We’re going to stand with the State of Israel, they need to root out Hamas and we need to stand up to Iran.”
