Citgo Store Owner shot Dead by Gunmen in Armed Robbery

UPDATE:

The victim of the robbery attempt/shooting, a 44 year old male, is reported to have passed away from his injury while being treated at ORMC, shortly after 9:00 PM on Sunday, January 10th 2009.

The victim, who was the owner of the Citgo store, is Ali Shafreeq, 44 years.

The suspects fled the store on foot, taking no money, and were last seen running northbound on Mott.

Two men attempted to rob a convenience store this evening, shooting one of the employees, then fleeing the scene on foot.  Both men remain at large.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 7:21 pm this evening, and responded to the Citgo store at 7155 Edgewater Drive, where they were informed by an employee that two men attempted to commit a robbery.

One of the men shot an employee inside the store in the right arm, before both fled on foot.

The men remain at large and it is not know if the suspects got money during the robbery.

The victim, a 44 year-old male, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and the injury was initially thought to be non life threatening.     He subsequently died shortly after 9:00 pm, this evening while being treated at ORMC.

The race of the two men is unknown at this time.  One man was armed with a hand gun.  They were wearing black hoodies and blue jeans.  One of the hoodies is said to have a white design of some type on the back.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies are continuing with the investigation.
