It might just be the case that, the Citrus Bowl ground covers up unacceptable levels of water and soil contamination, as does much of the ground in the downtown Parramore black ghetto. If so, mud may be much more difficult to avoid in the future.
The State Environmental Protection Agency has found unacceptable levels of pollution throughout the area. Orlando spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to excavate contaminated soil under the Amway Arena; the new U.S. Courthouse, the former Carver Shores housing project. The State EPA has identified other unacceptable levels of pollution elsewhere in that area, including the Centroplex and the current Orlando magic arena, and my personal favorite, the FAMU Law School.
The Orlando Sentinel and others might want to check that out. Oh, oopa. I forgot. The Sentinel has its own problems with environmental pollution the newspaper was said to have created with an old printing plant, twenty years or so ago.
But surely, that North Downtown Orlando reclamation project using state and local funding has been completed, because I have not read anything about it for years after former Sentinel publisher John Puerner assured everyone that the newspaper would not hide that mess.
Meanwhile, I look forward to other reports on environmental flukes throughout downtown Orlando.
