Rothstein, Crist’s Pal, to Pead Guilty to Fraud

Scott Rothstein, the Fort Lauderdale attorney and major campaign contributor to Governor Charlie Crist, will enter a plead of guilty in relation to a multi-million dollar fraud scheme.

Rothstein, 47, who appeared in a South Florida court on Wednesday, will plead guilty on January 27 on five racketerring conspiracy, fraud and money-laundering charges, the Miami Herald is reporting.

Observers say that Rothstein on Wednesday, appeared serious, a far cry from his almost jovial mood  when he first appeared in court last December.   He was shackled at the wrists and ankles and dressed in the traditional khaki prison uniform.

Rothstein’s attorney, Marc Nurik told reporters that his client accepts responsibility for his actions and helped authorities identify various assets, including real estate and luxury cars with the aim of repaying those investors who were defrauded.

If convicted, Rothstein could face from 30 years to life in prison.
