Felon Shoots at OPD Officers Responding to Domestic Violence Call

Another violent tragedy in Orlando, as police find three individuals, including a child, deceased in a home before shooting the domestic violence suspect and killing him. As another example of why law enforcement is needed on dangerous domestic violence calls, the Orlando Police Department showed OPD vehicles with bullet holes after officers were fired upon while responding to the recent domestic violence incident at Grand St.

The suspect was a convicted felon and the stolen gun pictured below was used to shoot at local police officers, as bullet holes can be seen on the vehicle:

OPD released the body-worn camera video of the incident in an effort to maintain transparency, and while the video is intense, it shows decisive action by local police officers and good coordination and support in a chaotic incident.

According to OPD, at approximately 2:25am, officers responded to a home at the 600 block of Grand in reference to a domestic violence incident. Shortly after arrival, officers heard shots from inside the house. The suspect came out of the house and shot at officers, who returned fire.

The suspect was transported to the hospital and was confirmed deceased.

Upon entering the home, three individuals were found with gunshot wounds. Police said one was a child, who was transported by officers to a local hospital. All three individuals were confirmed to be deceased.

The two officers involved were not injured and will be on paid administrative leave. As with all officer involved shootings, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will conduct an independent review of the incident, followed by the State Attorney’s office. Additionally, the Orlando Police Department will conduct its own internal investigation.
