Magic 1 Takes to the Skies

AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., today teamed up with the Orlando Magic to launch a one-of-a-kind, custom-painted Boeing 717 in Magic colors. The plane, dubbed Magic 1, will operate across the company’s network of more than 60 destinations.

This is the fourth in a special series of custom-painted AirTran Airways aircraft and the first outside of professional football. In October and November, AirTran unveiled Falcons 1 in Atlanta, Ravens 1 in Baltimore and Colts 1 in Indianapolis to honor the airline’s partnerships with these professional football clubs.

“As Orlando’s hometown airline, we are delighted to partner with the hometown team and unveil this great looking aircraft,” said Bob Fornaro, chairman, president and CEO, AirTran Airways. “We are excited and proud that millions of people all over the country will see our two brands flying side-by-side in the sky.”

Earlier this fall, AirTran Airways became the official airline of the Orlando Magic and joined the team as “Champions of the Community” partners. This partnership includes unparalleled team and facility access, brand recognition visibility, and category exclusivity, including the creation of the AirTran Airways Flight Deck in the New Amway Center set to open for the 2010-2011 season.

“The Orlando Magic is very excited to unveil ‘Magic 1,’ the first NBA-themed plane in AirTran Airways’ fleet,” said Alex Martins, Orlando Magic Chief Operating Officer. “This custom Boeing 717 is another representation of the great partnership between our franchise and AirTran Airways, one of the first ‘Champions of the Community’ partners of the new Amway Center.”
