Orlando Congressional Candidate Wants to Limit Export of American Oil and Gas

Natalie Jackson, a Democratic candidate running for Congress in Orlando, is calling for more action on gas prices, saying “it’s time we take a bigger stance on this” and that “Americans are feeling the cost of Putin’s war on Ukraine here at home.” She added that price gouging was also part of the current problem and called for putting the American people over profits. Jackson is running for Florida’s 10th Congressional District to replace Representative Val Demings, who is running for U.S. Senate.

“I join Congress in demanding we take immediate action, with President Biden, to immediately limit the export of American oil and gas as we struggle with price gouging and Putin’s war on Ukraine,” candidate Jackson said. “Oil companies have received millions in tax breaks and paid millions in bonuses. At the same time, they drive up prices by selling American oil to foreign customers and taking advantage of the crisis. We must stop letting them scapegoat struggling people for profits.”

Rep. Demings seemingly agrees with the candidate looking to replace her in Congress. “One reason for higher gas prices? Companies export gas that could be used here. I’ve asked the administration to limit oil and gas exports to further reduce costs for families,” Demings tweeted this month.

Jackson brings national security and foreign policy experience to the Orlando congressional race. She was commissioned as a Naval Intelligence Officer and graduated from Naval Intelligence School before being assigned to an air wing aboard the USS Roosevelt in 1994 as a Middle East analyst. Jackson was part of the first team of women allowed on a combat vessel. After her service on the USS Roosevelt, Natalie was detailed to the Joint Chief of Staff as part of an internal think tank that taught operators about new satellite systems. She credits her experience at the Pentagon for providing her the expertise to work with the Department of Defense and other departments in the Federal Government.

We must limit oil and gas exports to further reduce costs for American families,” Rep. Demings said.
