Sometimes, people actually do the right thing!
Ten Orange County citizens tackled a suspect and rendered aid to a 76-year-old woman, who was the victim of a strong-armed robbery on Wednesday.
Investigators say, shortly before 3:00 p.m., the elderly woman was walking to her car at the Winn Dixie located at 7580 University Boulevard, when the suspect, later identified as John Zachary Desjardin, 23, tackled her and attempted to grab her purse.
According to the arrest report, the elderly woman began screaming while struggling to hold on to her purse. She was knocked to the ground in the tussle.
The ‘Good Samaritans’ who were in the parking lot at the time heard her screams. Several chased down Desjardin, tackled him to the ground and held him until Orange County deputies arrived on the scene. Others stayed with the elderly woman.
Desjardin was arrested and charged with attempted robbery and battery on a person 65 years and older.
All 10 citizens who came to the senior’s aid are expected to be recognized by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
