Florida ranks fourth in the nation where the 1% is most undertaxed, according to a new analysis by WalletHub, a leading one-stop destination for consumer and small business information.
WalletHub ranked all states based on a nationally representative online survey of 1,050 individuals, who were asked for their views on what a fair state and local tax system should look like. These findings were then compared to data on the real structure of tax systems in all 50 states.
Florida ranked #3 among the 50 states where the poor or bottom 20% are most overtaxed, according to the survey results. Only in Washington (#1) and Illinois (#2) did respondents say the poor are taxed more.
Overall, Florida placed a lowly 46 out of 50 states in relation to how Americans viewed the fairness of state/local taxes. Illinois, Arkansas, Hawaii and Washington have more unfair state/local tax systems, the survey results showed.
