As yet another corruption scandal swirls around Gov. Rick Scott, today, Senator Geraldine Thompson (District 12) and Rep. Victor Torres (District 48), slammed Scott’s ‘crime’ tour saying, he should focus instead on keeping his administration safe from double-dealing and fraud and helping Florida’s middle class.

On Monday, Scott embarked on a statewide re-election campaign tour called “Let’s Keep Florida Safe.” During the kickoff gimmick in Tampa, the governor highlighted his commitment to fighting crime.

Thompson and Torres issued the following statement on Scott’s “crime” tour:

“Rick Scott, whose checkered past includes overseeing what was the largest Medicare fraud in the nation’s history, has been accused of fostering a culture of corruption and pay-to-play politics. The latest scandal to plague the Scott administration comes from his chief of staff, Adam Hollingsworth, who used his earlier role as an advisor, power, and connections to kill high-speed rail from Tampa to Orlando, only to then help set up a lucrative, rail deal benefitting from taxpayer dollars for All Aboard Florida—his former employer.

“Rejecting high-speed rail in Florida cost the state $2 billion in federal funds and more than 20,000 jobs.

“The Governor is on his crime tour this week, which is ironic since it is only three days after it was uncovered that chief of staff was in the middle of yet another potential Scott administration pay-to-play scheme,” said Representative Victor Torres. “What he should be focusing on instead is how to keep his administration safe from corruption and dirty dealings.”

“Scott is touring the state this week in an attempt to distract us from Scott’s questionable ethics endemic in his administration, said Senator Geraldine Thompson. “The real crime against the state is the Governor’s preference for tax breaks and sweetheart deals to special interests, while barely lifting a finger to address the issues that struggling Floridians are faced with.”
