Wekiva Parkway construction allows residents to rename Sorrento Avenue

Lake County is asking residents of the communities of Mount Plymouth and Sorrento to complete an online survey at www.lakecountyfl.gov/sr46 and submit road name ideas for a portion of State Road 46 that will require a new name due to the construction of the Wekiva Parkway. Submissions will be accepted online from May 8- June 30.

            The 25-mile Wekiva Parkway will complete the beltway around Central Florida and relieve traffic congestion on many area roads. When Lake County’s portion of the Wekiva Parkway is completed, State Road 46 through Sorrento and Mount Plymouth will be transferred to the county to own and maintain. Through this process, the portion of State Road 46 west of Swan Road to the realignment of County Road 46A near Camp Challenge Road will be transferred to the county and will be renamed.

            The State Road 46 road segment being affected is currently platted with the name “Sorrento Avenue.” As part of the road renaming process, the community is being asked if they would prefer to keep the name Sorrento Avenue, or suggest an alternate name for consideration.

            The names submitted will be reviewed by Lake County staff to ensure they meet the standards for road names. The top three qualified names will be presented to the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, who will make the final selection.

            In this area, Wekiva Parkway will provide access to private properties for local trips along a non-tolled two-lane service road from the County Road 46A realignment in Lake County to Orange Boulevard in Seminole County.

            The parkway will begin at the State Road 429/State Road 414 interchange at the new Connector Road just north of U.S. Highway 441 in Apopka, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. The parkway will then go north to an interchange south of the Orange-Lake County line. There will be a connection from the systems interchange to the northwest, across the county line that connects with State Road 46 near Round Lake Road. The other leg from the systems interchange will head east and then north along the State Road 46 corridor in Lake and Seminole counties before turning south to connect with State Road 417.
