Former President Bill Clinton, named United Nations Special Envoy to Haiti earlier this year, will be flying back to Haiti today.
Clinton who will be on the island for two days, will be attempting to boost private sector interest and financial resources for the impoverished Caribbean nation.
While on the island, Clinton will meet with President Rene Preval and Prime Minister Michele Pierre-Louis
Clinton will be accompanied by Paul Farmer, Deputy Special Envoy who was named last month to the post.
Speaking before the Security Council last month, Clinton observed that Haiti has “a remarkable opportunity” to overcome decades of misrule and neglect, but major obstacles remained to be overcome. At that time too, he called on the international community to support Haiti so that the earlier gains might be consolidated, going forward.
