Orlando honors local vets at Greenwood Cemetery

On Saturday, December 14, residents and visitors are invited to Greenwood Cemetery to honor veterans during the holiday season as part of the national Wreaths Across America Day.

As part of the event, District 4 City Commissioner Patty Sheehan will host a ceremony that honors veterans from all branches of the military: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and POW/MIA. Immediately following the ceremony, volunteers will place more than 400 wreaths in the American Legion/Military section of the Greenwood Cemetery. District 3 City Commissioner Robert F. Stuart will also be in attendance at the event.

Wreaths Across America Day began more than 20 years ago when the Worcester Wreath Company from Harrington, Maine initiated a tradition of donating and placing wreaths on the headstones of our nation’s fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony and volunteer to place wreaths. Jersey Mike’s Subs Central Florida stores through their customers and employees efforts, along with local citizens, raised and donated the funds to purchase the more than 400 wreaths for the ceremony.
