Two women killed in single-vehicle crash on Florida Turnpike

Fatal-Crash-generic-27825957-480-x-270The driver of a Ford van and her 87-year-old female passenger were killed on the Florida Turnpike on Sunday, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened just after 1:00 p.m., near mile marker 210, in Osceola County.

Troopers said, the 49-year-old woman who was traveling southbound, for an unknown reason, lost control of the 2005 Ford van and traveled into the median. The vehicle struck a guard rail and overturned into the northbound lanes.

The driver, who was ejected from the van, was pronounced dead on the scene by the medical examiner.

An 87-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at Holmes Regional Hospital.

Troopers have not released the identity of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.  Both women are from Georgia.

The crash remains under investigation.
