Two girls, ages 12 and 14, have been arrested in connection with the death of Rebecca Ann Sedwick, who committed suicide last month, Polk County deputies said Tuesday.
The identities of girls who have been arrested will be released later today at a press conference. They have been charged with aggravated stalking, a felony.
Sedwick, who was bullied at school over a boy, jumped to her death on September 9. Her body was found lying on the ground at a former cement plant on North Eastside Drive in Lakeland. Officials said, she jumped from a cement mixing tower.
On the day Sedwick died, her mother told investigators she left home on Arizona Avenue on her way to a bus stop for school, but Rebecca never got onto the bus.
Even after Sedwick left the school she attended, she was cyberbullied with hateful messages, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.
Judd will release more details of the arrests at a news conference at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.
