Pastor Terry Jones was arrested on Wednesday, after a traffic stop, Polk County deputies said.

Jones, 61, who is pastor of Dove World Outreach Center-Dove Charismatic Ministries, was taken into custody around 5:00 p.m., at the Mulberry Pharmacy located at 1009 N. Church Avenue, Mulberry.

Jones was stopped driving a pickup truck towing a large barbecue-style grill filled with kerosene-soaked Korans to a park, where he said he was planning to burn  2,998 of the Muslim holy books – one for each of the victims who perished in the September 11 terrorist attacks, according to news reports.

Mervin Sapp, Jr., 44, Associate Pastor, Dove World Outreach Center, was also arrested, investigators said.

Jones and Sapp have been charged with a felony – unlawful conveyance of fuel.  Jones has also been charged with unlawful open-carry of a firearm, and Sapp faces an additional charged of not having a valid registration for the trailer.

Jones, who heads a small evangelical Christian church, gained notoriety in 2010 after he announced plans to burn a Koran on the anniversary of 9/11.  He would eventually pull the plug on his plan.
