A one-year-old Kissimmee boy died Friday, after it is believed he ate a pack of laundry detergent.
Michael Williams, 1, was staying with this mother in a battered woman’s shelter in Kissimmee, when he swallowed the laundry detergent, clickorlando.com reports.
It could take up to 12 weeks to rule on the official cause of Michael’s death, the Medical Examiner told Local 6.
The concentrated laundry detergents are packaged in bright colors and smell sweet and it’s easy for young children to mistake them for candy. Officials say, though the packages carry warnings, the pods are eaten by small children who cannot read.
It is unclear if anyone will face charges in Michael’s death.
Emergency calls related to laundry packets have skyrocketed across the country.
