DOH Strengthens Trauma Program, Block Appointed Director

 

Ernest Block, MD, MBA, EMT-P, FACS, FCCM has been appointed to the position of Trauma Medical Director, the Florida Department of Health announced Thursday. Dr. Block has served in many roles in the field of trauma care and is renowned statewide as a trauma surgeon, professor of surgery, and published author and researcher. As Trauma Medical Director, Dr. Block will apply his professional medical expertise to DOH’s planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of Florida’s Trauma System. This will include the areas of adult and pediatric trauma care, disaster preparedness, mass casualty response and injury prevention.

“Our state is very fortunate to have Dr. Block join our trauma team,” said State Surgeon General and Secretary for Health Dr. John H. Armstrong. “Dr. Block’s leadership and performance improvement expertise will help our state’s trauma system move forward for the benefit of all of Florida’s citizens and visitors.”

Dr. Block began his career as a surgeon in 1994 and has worked in large hospital settings throughout his career. He most recently served as Director of Acute Care Surgery at Holmes Regional in Melbourne, and currently holds the position of Professor of Surgery at the University of Central Florida School of Medicine.
