There was an incident involving a 9mm gun ammunition cartridge on the Tampa campus of the University of South Florida.
In the afternoon of April 22nd, students notified the USF Police Department that they found one empty 9mm ammo cartridge located in Parking Lot 9 on the Tampa campus. The item is now in the possession of USFPD.
Out of an abundance of caution, a K9 unit from the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was requested to assist in conducting a sweep of the surrounding area. The search did not uncover any additional items or evidence.
Based on this review, there is no reason to believe that there is any active threat to the USF campus, according to local law enforcement.
USFPD said it remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
