92-year-old man to be charged in Lake County crash that killed 3 Utility Workers

1406061341000-deadly-crash-generic-centeredThree utility workers were killed on U.S. 27 in Lake County Thursday, in a crash involving a 92-year-old driver, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. on U.S. 27  and Cornerside near Clermont.

Troopers say, Ira Caldwell, 92, of Davenport, was attempting to make a right turn to head south on US 27 and pulled into the direct path of Alexandra Schultz, 20, of Clermont, who was traveling southbound.

The left front of the Cadillac Caldwell was driving struck the right side of Schultz’ Chevy, troopers said. After the impact, the Chevy travelled off onto the west shoulder striking the three utility men. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

The three men, ages 34, 35 and 4o years, all from Georgia, worked for Service Electric Company. Their names have not yet been released.

Troopers said, the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
