Troopers are investigating a crash in Brevard County that left an 81-year-old Melbourne man dead on Thursday morning.
Florida Highway Patrol said that Charles M. Brown, 81, of Melbourne was headed eastbound in a 2010 Mercedes on Davis Lane on Thursday around 10:30 am, when he attempted to make a left turn to travel northbound on Babcock Street. Edgar E. Griffis, driving a 2003 Dodge truck was traveling southbound on Babcock Street when Brown traveled into the path of the truck. The front of Brown’s Mercedes collided with the left mid section of the truck. Brown was pronounced dead on the spot.
A passenger, William Marcus, 82, of Melbourne traveling with Brown suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. He was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center.
Griffis, 84, of Merritt Island, suffered minor injuries.
Both Brown and Griffis were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Troopers said that the crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending.
