ETC:   For the past 24 years the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 93 has sponsored fund raising events that ensured hundreds of needy children would have a Merry Christmas. And for 24 years FOP members, Sheriff’s Office employees, and other volunteers have gathered on an early Sunday morning at a local store to take these youngsters on a dream shopping trip. Shop With a Cop 2009 hopes to reach out to over 700 area youngsters and make them part of this proud holiday tradition.
The kids will pair up with a deputy or volunteer and be given up to $100 to shop for anything they would like. Interesting to note that, while many of the kids stock up on their favorite toys or clothing, some of them, many who have little or nothing of their own, have used their money to buy gifts for members of their family.
Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings will be on hand for this year’s event.
