A majority of the Orange County School Board Members told the superintendent to go forward with a plan to close seven small elementary schools. They include Grand Avenue, Richmond Heights, Eccleston, Pine Castle, Hillcrest, Maxey and Kaley.
The move is expected to save Orange County Public Schools as much as $7.2 million.
“It’s sad, very sad,” said JoAnn Roberts, a teacher at Kaley Elementary. “It’s not right. Some of our kids are going to get swept under the carpet. We need our small schools.”
