Several franchisees plan to open a total of five new Primrose Schools throughout Central Florida by 2011.
Darin Harris, chief operating officer of Acworth, Ga.-based Primrose Schools Inc., said the company has four sites under contract on which it plans to begin the development process. Primrose decided to start development and then locate a franchisee, securing two so far. “We’re willing to do that to keep growth going,” Harris said.
Those new sites — in Maitland, the Orlando community of Cypress Springs and two in Oviedo — will be 10,000- to 12,000-square-foot standalone buildings on 1.5 acres, Harris said. Each site requires a $3 million-$3.5 million investment.
The Orlando area already has three existing centers, and at least three of the new centers — including the Lake Mary one — could open by 2010.
Tuition at a Primrose School typically ranges from $210-$270 per week, depending on the program. In 2008, after-school program costs in the United States ranged from $4,055 to $11,680 a year for a child at least 4 years old — $337 to $973 monthly — according to data from the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies.
