2013 Florida Conference on Aging, August 12-14

The Florida Conference on Aging, Florida’s most comprehensive conference on aging, will be held August 12-14, 2013 at the Grande Lakes J.W. Marriott in Orlando. This annual conference offers outstanding training sessions, pre-conference intensives and an exhibit show for professionals and advocates in aging. The conference is presented jointly by the Florida Council on Aging, the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and the Association of Aging Services Providers.

Charles Corley, Secretary of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs will be in attendance and speaking at the conference, providing attendees the opportunity to learn about best practices, new initiatives and the future direction of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA).

Additional Conference Highlights Include:

Keynote speaker Rich Luker, Ph.D. will present topics from his book Simple Community. Having studied American Life for over 25 years, he is turning his attention to helping communities, organizations and American companies work together to enrich community life in America. Mr. Luker is best known for his creation of the ESPN Sports Poll.

Keynote speaker, New York Times bestselling author Ted Fishman, is the author of Shock of Gray: The Aging of the World’s Population and How it Pits Young Against Old, Child Against Parent, Worker Against Boss, Company Against Rival, and Nation Against Nation. Mr. Fishman’s essays and reports have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, USA Today, GQ, and Business 2.0.

Pre-Conference Intensives, including Lessons Learned – Medicaid Managed Care, Sponsored by the Florida Association of Aging Services Providers; Oral Health Project; Human Capital Management; Five Simple Ways to Resolve Grief; Florida State Certified Training; Guardian Scene Investigation.

The 2013 Quality Senior Living Awards Luncheon, acknowledging individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the quality of life of older Floridians. Comedian Mary Maxwell will be the guest speaker at the Awards Luncheon.

Over 60 workshop sessions will be conducted, and will include educational tracks on: Aging Policy, Livable Communities, Management & Administration, Mental Health, Adult Day Service and Senior Centers.

Exhibit show featuring over 60 innovative companies and organizations.

Unlimited networking opportunities all three days, including a Networking Reception on Monday, August 12, 2013 and association meetings on Tuesday, August 13, 2013.

Registration is available online at www.FCOA.org until August 10. Onsite registration at the Grande Lakes J.W. Marriott in Orlando will be available starting on Sunday, August 11, from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. and daily August 12-14, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
