2012 Relay For Life of Dr. Phillips

Relay For Life of Dr. Phillips is one of the largest community events in Central Florida, raising cancer awareness and funds to benefit the American Cancer Society. The event is being sponsored by MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando.

In its 9th year, this event is projected to host over 1,500 people and raise enough funds to place in the top 25 Relay For Life events in the state of Florida. Cancer Survivors are the guests of honor. An inspirational Survivor Lap starts the event, allowing them to celebrate what they have overcome and motivating their community to fight. As the sun sets over the campsites, the night is brightened by the glow of illuminated bags called Luminaria, each bearing the name of someone who has battled cancer. Throughout the night, people walk the track to fight back against cancer, one step at a time.

Over 50 campsites will offer food, games and merchandise to raise money to support the fight against cancer.

Throughout the evening and following morning, live entertainment and activities will keep the crowd going strong. Event highlights include:

• Event kick-off by Master of Ceremonies Johnny Magic from XL 106.7: http://www.johnnyshouse.com
• Musician Mark Russell: http://www.officialmarkrussell.com
• Vocalist Emily Piriz: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Emily-Piriz/114868515251602

• Memorial Wall: An ongoing activity with submitted photos and other items to feature people that are battling or have battled cancer.

The event will be held at Chain of Lakes Middle School, 8700 Conroy Windermere Road, from April 14th, 2012 at 2:00 PM to April 15th, 2012 at 8:00 AM. The event is free to the community. Visitors are asked to “think green”, and reduce the event’s carbon footprint by carpooling, bicycling, or walking to the event.
