2010 Census Job Fair coming to Orlando

As part of a massive statewide effort to increase participation in the 2010 Census, Senator Gary Siplin and Representative Geraldine Thompson in conjunction with the local Census office will host a Job Fair on Wednesday, January 27th at the Dr. Smith Community Center in Orlando from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.   Local elected and appointed officials, as well as, national celebrities will also be present. Participants will be able to complete on the spot applications for jobs.

“The 2010 Census questionnaire will consist of 10 questions and it is important for everyone to be counted since every year, about $400 billion in federal funds are distributed to local, state, and tribal governments based on census data.   Citizens who are not counted cost the state about $2,000 per person in funding,” stated Senator Gary Siplin, D-Orlando and chairman of the FLBC.

Residential homes in the United States by March will receive in the mail the Census questionnaire. Title 13 of the U.S. code protects the confidentiality of all citizens’ information. Information collected is used for statistical purposes only and no government agency or court can use your answers against you.  In addition, participation in the census is not dependent on your visa or residency status.

The Florida Legislative Black Caucus (FLBC) is leading the charge in building awareness of the upcoming 2010 Census.  Activities will be undertaken throughout the state next Wednesday, January 27th, in what is being called Census Awareness Day.
