A meth lab explosion near Daytona Beach, led to the arrest of two people, after sending five people to a hospital on Wednesday, Volusia County deputies said.
Authorities say, three people – two adults and an 8-month-old baby – were in a house at 1216 10th Street at the time of the explosion, which happened around 11:30 a.m.
The adult female, identified as Laura Wiggins and the child were taken to a local area hospital, for evaluations. The man, identified as George Wiggins received medical attention inside the home, but was later taken to Halifax Medical Center for treatment.
Two deputies who were exposed to heavy chemical fumes when they entered the house also went to the Halifax Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.
Both Laura and George Wiggins were arrested after they were released from the Halifax Medical Center, according to news reports.
Investigators believe someone inside the home was making methamphetamine in a fire extinguisher. They said the cylinder overpressurized and burst, spilling chemicals throughout the house, wftv.com reported.
