18-Year-Old Central Florida Shooter Fired at Occupied Vehicle

An 18-year-old Central Florida shooter fired several shots at a vehicle full of people on July 4th and face charges including attempted murder.

Deputies responded after the victims reported someone fired at them several times in front of 1062 George Anderson St. in Ormond Beach. The bullet holes in the vehicle indicated the occupants narrowly missed being struck at head or chest level.

Detectives identified Dylan Preis, who had a recent falling out with the driver, as the shooter.

After initially denying involvement, Preis eventually confessed and admitted to using his grandmother’s 9mm handgun to commit the shooting, according to law enforcement. Detectives recovered the gun, ammunition and shell casings at the scene.

The 18-year-old from Ormond Beach was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, four counts of firing into a vehicle, and one count of criminal mischief, as well as violation of his juvenile probation.

He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he was being held with no bond.
