18-Year-Old Arrested for Murder in Fatal Shooting at Park in Tampa

An 18-year-old was arrested for murder in a fatal shooting at a park in Tampa.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the individual in connection with the fatal shooting at Plantation Park in Tampa on March 4th.

Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses, leading to 18-year-old Anthony Cabrera Morales being identified as the shooter. Cabrera Morales was arrested without incident.

HCSO’s 911 Dispatch Center received a call about shots being fired at the park. Deputies arrived and found two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Both victims were transported to the hospital. One adult male, 19-year-old Brian Jones, succumbed to his injuries. The second victim was in stable condition.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned a fight broke out during a basketball game, which led to the shooting.

Cabrera Morales is charged with Attempted Murder in the First Degree Premeditated Firearm – Great Bodily Harm, and Murder in the Second Degree Firearm – Great Bodily Harm/death.

“This arrest cannot undo the tragic loss of life, but I’m proud of our detective’s hard work in finding and arresting this individual quickly,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Acts of violence in our community will be met with a swift response, and we will bring those responsible to justice.”

“A basketball game should never lead to a senseless act of violence such as this,” the Sheriff said.

The case remains an active homicide investigation, according to local law enforcement.
