Orange County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a suspect in the attempted murder of a librarian at the South Creek Library on Monday morning. Angel Luis Rios-Labrador was arrested on Tuesday and charged with attempted first degree murder, occupied burglary, grand theft and possession of burglary tools.
On Monday July 5, 2010 at approximately 8:30 am, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call in reference to a burglary aggravated battery that occurred at the South Creek Library, located at 1702 Deerfield Blvd.
Deputies responded to the scene and found the victim, who is an employee at the library, with multiple lacerations to the neck area.
Maria L. Feliciano, 47 years, and the victim of the attack, told detectives that when she entered the west side entrance of the library, once inside she observed a Hispanic male in a low kneeling position behind a book case. When she inquired of the man what he was doing, the suspect, Angel Luis Rios-Labrador said he was waiting for a woman that was also in the library.
Feliciano went to use the phone to check with her supervisor, whereupon the suspect grabbed her by the arm and started to slash her multiple times around the neck, chest, face and back torso area. Subsequently, the suspect fled the library after the theft and attack.
Sources close to the investigation said that Feliciano survived the attack due to the dullness of the weapon that Rios-Labrador used.

Detectives set up a perimeter and it is believed that the suspect hid in a wooded area for more than 24 hours. The suspect could see police activity from the woods, but according to investigators, after the bugs got to him, he came out and tried to make a telephone call at the near-by Home Depot.
A Home Depot worker called 911 when the suspect was spotted, as all businesses in the area were alerted to the attack, but not before he fled into a fast food restaurant. Police arrested Rios-Labrador shortly after.
According to detectives, Rios-Labrador is from Puerto Rico and has been in area for only a few months and has been staying with relatives.
Rios-Labrador has been charged with attempted first degree murder, occupied burglary, grand theft and possession of burglary tools.
