16-Year-Old Suffers Injury in Central Florida Road Rage Shooting, 37-Year-Old Arrested

A 16-year-old female suffered a non-fatal injury in a Central Florida road rage shooting, and a 37-year-old man has been arrested.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office recently responded to reports of shots fired near 4202 South Falkenburg Road near Tampa during what was described as a road rage incident.

On August 27th at approximately 5pm, two parties traveling northbound got into an altercation where one driver fired a weapon at the other vehicle.

One of the bullets struck a 16-year-old female passenger located in the other vehicle. She was taken to TGH with non-life-threatening injuries. The two drivers are not injured.

HCSO’s Gunfire Response Investigations Team was on the scene investigating how many shots were fired and what led up to the shooting.

“There is simply no excuse to endanger a life because of a disagreement with another driver,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “There is absolutely no reason for an innocent 16-year-old to be in the hospital because of a road rage incident.”

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the man who fired shots in the road rage incident. The suspect, 37-year-old Rasool Hakeem, admitted to discharging his firearm twice during the incident.

Hakeem has been charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree Firearm Great Bodily Harm (x2) and Shooting At or Into a Vehicle.

“To discharge your firearm at another vehicle is simply reckless,” said Sheriff Chronister. “This suspect had no regard for human life during this completely avoidable interaction.”

This investigation is ongoing, according to local law enforcement.
