16-Year-Old Arrested for Pistol-Whipping, Shooting in Central Florida

A 16-year-old was arrested for pistol-whipping a 14-year-old and shooting a gun in Central Florida.

On Thursday evening, Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Normandy Boulevard and Merrimac Street in the city of Deltona, for a report of a gunshot fired during a fight involving a group of juveniles.

As deputies saturated the neighborhood, witnesses reported a possible suspect was seen running through yards. Deputies also identified and tracked down a suspect vehicle that left the area.

During their search of the area, deputies found a discarded black ski mask, black hoodie, and a Coach bag containing a 9mm handgun.

The investigation revealed that 16-year-old Marcel Serrano pistol-whipped a 14-year-old in the head and fired a round during a confrontation that involved several other juveniles.

In addition to recovering the gun and clothing, deputies found the shell casing from the shot fired.

Marcel was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence.

Marcel’s father, 36-year-old Marvin Serrano, whose vehicle picked up Marcel from the scene and was later located at the family’s residence, was also arrested for a violation of an active injunction ordering him to have no unsupervised contact with Marcel.

Additional charges are possible pending further investigation, according to local law enforcement.
