16-Month-Old Child Nearly Drowns in Family Pool

A rapid response by Ocoee Fire Rescue and firefighter paramedics saved the life of a 16-month-old child, who almost drowned Tuesday.

Authorities say, when the fire units arrived within 3 minutes at the child’s home this morning, the toddler was unresponsive and without a pulse in the family swimming pool.

Firefighter paramedics quickly sprung into action and immediately began CPR on the child, who was rapidly transported to Orlando Health. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the child began to cry and became responsive, Ocoee police say.

I am extremely proud of the quick response and emergency treatment done by my officers which no doubt saved the child’s life,” said Ocoee Fire Battalion Chief Mike Reed, who provided an escort for the transport to the hospital.

The child, who will continue to be evaluated by hospital staff, is expected to make a full recovery.
