1,356 Less Guns on Central Florida Streets

Gun holders took the opportunity on Friday to turn in 1,356 unwanted guns for a pair of shoes or gift cards at the Kicks for Guns program on Friday, held at nine separate venues throughout Orange County.

Organized by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were on hand to exchange Target gift cards to persons who turned in unwanted guns during the Kicks for Guns program.

As customary, individuals who brought in guns, if desired, remained anonymous and no questions were asked about the guns being returned.

In 2009 there were 147 firearms turned in and some potentially used in crimes or could have been used in crimes. Specifically three AK-47’s (7.62) Rifles with sawed of stocks were turned in as well as a sawed double twelve gauge shotgun.
