Chief Val Demings Wins First Congressional Primary Debate

ValDemings2Chief Val Demings, candidate for Florida’s 10th Congressional District, had a strong showing at the first Democratic primary debate forum, hosted by the Tiger Bay Club of Orlando.  Speaking from her vast Central Florida leadership experience and showing a deep understanding of the issues, Chief Demings set herself apart as the most qualified candidate in the crowded Democratic Primary field and her campaign quickly declared victory.

“I enjoyed this opportunity to speak with my opponents and voters about the challenging issues facing Central Florida,” said Chief Val Demings. “Everything I have heard on the campaign trail is that voters are hungry for change and proven leadership. I believe I am that leader, and that the voters in District 10, see that.”

The former Orlando Police Chief has a strong lead over her three opponents in the polls. A survey by Public Policy Polling showed Demings with a 22-point lead over State Senator Geraldine Thompson, and a 37-point lead over Bob Poe. Fatima Fahmy is also running in the Democratic primary. The newly redrawn District 10 is a safe Democratic seat with a D+10 performance. Demings has strong local and national backing that includes Minority House Leader Nancy Pelosi.

“Chief Demings showed she is the only candidate who has the knowledge and experience to tackle the issues covered in this debate,  including national security, gun control, the federal budget, and economic development,” said the campaign’s Communications Director Caroline Rowland. “Chief Demings won this debate and clearly demonstrated that she is the strongest leader in the race and the only one who truly understands the issues facing the families of Central Florida.”
