West Oaks Mall in Ocoee, Fla. is throwing a free back to school party on Saturday, Aug. 13, 1-5 p.m. to help families prepare themselves inside and out for the new school year.
In addition to the Florida tax free weekend on books, clothing and school supplies, West Oaks is spotlighting three Orlando organizations dedicated to preventing violence, raising awareness and protecting human rights:
- Students Against Violence Everywhere (S.A.V.E.)
A student-driven organization devoted to community and school violence prevention programs, including conflict management, crime prevention and service projects.
- Zebra Coalition
An organization fostering hope, dignity and self-respect for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning youth and to provide them an opportunity to grow-up in a safe and encouraging environment.
- UpStanders International
A program inspiring and facilitating educators, young leaders and students of all ages, from across the globe, to stand up to end genocide and protect human rights.
There will be presentations by local student groups, information booths and a school supply drive for the nonprofit S.T.A.R.S. (Supplies To Assist Our Students) which services more 60 schools in Orange County. S.A.V.E. is offering materials for families on student safety, and Health Central will provide complimentary medical services.
Hip-hop artists Ease and T.P., will perform pieces written especially for this family-friendly event, as well as the power-pop boy band discovered in Orlando, Jullian and the Hearthrob Heroes, who are scheduled for their second tour with Disney this fall. All artists will be available after their performances for a VIP meet-and-greet with photos and autographs.
Games, contests, prizes, dancing, giveaways and activities for all ages are provided free of charge.
