Lake County 4-H Foundation hosts ‘Ribs 4 Kids’ event

The Lake County 4-H Foundation will be hosting a fundraiser event entitled, “Ribs 4 Kids” on Friday, Jan. 21 at 12 and 3 p.m. at the Lake County Agricultural Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares.

The event supports 4-H youth development programs in Lake County and features family-sized, take-home portions for sale of barbeque pork ribs or pork roasts prepared by Chef TJ Pratt. The first pick-up will begin at 12 p.m. and the second pick-up begins at 3 p.m. at the Agricultural Center.

The cost is $20 for a full slab of barbeque ribs; $25 for a pork roast; or $45 for one of each.  Every order includes a quart each of coleslaw and baked beans. “We’re hoping the event will be a great success,” said, Jennifer Hodges, 4-H Youth Development Agent with the Lake County Cooperative Extension Office. “Community support for events like this enable valuable 4-H youth programs here in Lake County to continue .”

The Lake County 4-H program boasts more than 753 members, 252 youth & adult volunteers and 3,400 students enrolled in school enrichment and after-school programs. The fundamental 4-H ideal of practical, “learn by doing” experiences encourage youth to experiment, innovate and think independently. The programs of 4-H are offered through school-based, after-school and camp settings and within community clubs.

The Lake County Cooperative Extension, which oversees Lake County’s 4-H program, is a partnership between the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences (IFAS), and the Lake County Board of County Commissioners.
