Authorities are investigating an alleged breach of patient information by three employees at an Orlando area hospital.
Florida Hospital took out a newspaper advertisement under the headline, “Public Notice” to advise patients that information related to patients’ names, date of birth, Social Security numbers and insurance information, had been accessed by the three employees, who have since been fired.
The information was accessed from the emergency department in three Central Florida counties–Orange, Osceola and Seminole–and spanned a period of 20 months, from January 2010 to August 2011, floridatoday.com reports.
The quarter-page advertisement, which does not bear the Florida Hospital logo states, “the hospital will offer credit monitoring to patients that might have been affected.”
