Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando To Open Homeownership Program August 1st

image003On Aug. 1st, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando will begin accepting pre-qualification forms for its homeownership program. Pre-qualification forms will be available and can be submitted only from August 1 – August 31, 2016.

The forms will be available via the Habitat Greater Orlando website, picked up from the main office, emailed or faxed to interested applicants. This will be the first step to applying for the homeownership program.

In order to apply for a Habitat Greater Orlando home, interested applicants must meet three criteria: 1) a housing need, 2) an ability to pay and 3) a willingness to partner.

A housing need is defined as living in inadequate, overcrowded, transitional or unaffordable conditions. In regards to income, applicants must fall between 30% and 75% of the area median income for Orange County as set by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Applicants will also need to qualify for the mortgage loan (the projected housing payment cannot exceed 30 percent of their gross income).

Future homeowners will be required to attend homeownership preparedness classes and complete the required number of sweat equity hours (300 for a single head of household and 500 for a dual head of household). For more details on the criteria to apply, visit habitat-orlando.org/apply or call 407-648-4567 ext.  201.

Pre-qualification forms will be available Aug. 1st and will need to be received at the Habitat Greater Orlando office no later than August 31st at 5:00 p.m.  Completed forms will only be accepted by mail or by dropping them off at the main office drop-off box. The office is located at 4116 Silver Star Road, Orlando, FL 32808; hours are MondayFriday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Habitat Greater Orlando partners with people in the community to build or improve homes. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers, and pay an affordable mortgage. The program assists Habitat homeowners to achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and for their families.
