FEMA Designates Orange County Residents for Individual Assistance after Hurricane Milton

FEMA designated Orange County residents for federal disaster assistance for losses resulting from Hurricane Milton.

To be eligible for federal aid under FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program, storm damage and losses from the hurricane and flooding must have occurred as a result of Hurricane Milton.

If you have insurance, you must file a claim with your insurance company first. If you do not have insurance or insurance does not cover your claim, you may apply for FEMA assistance.

Residents who suffered Milton-related damages are encouraged to register with FEMA online at DisasterAssistance.gov, on the FEMA Mobile App, or by calling 800-621-3362 (FEMA).

For FEMA assistance in Orange County for Hurricane Milton, individuals and households should have the following information ready when applying:

  • Contact information (Telephone number, Mailing address, Social Security number)
  • Household income
  • Address of damaged home or apartment
  • Description of damage/lost items
  • Photos of your damaged home and belongings
  • Information about insurance coverage
  • Bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit of funds

The toll-free number 800-621-3362 (FEMA) is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week.

According to Orlando Congressman Maxwell Frost, federal assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and other business owners recover from a disaster.

Rep. Frost’s office said if you have insurance, you should file a claim with your insurance company first, then apply for FEMA assistance. FEMA cannot aid with losses already covered by your insurance. If your insurance does not cover all of your losses or is delayed, you may be eligible for FEMA assistance regarding your unmet needs. You do not have to wait until your insurance settlement to apply.

Congressman Frost said residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for assistance at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), or by using the FEMA App. Anyone using a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, can give FEMA the number for that service.
