Business Community Rallies Around 18th Annual CANSTRUCTION®

l-r: Vanessa Patterson, James L. Moore & Daren Patterson - 2010

What happens when you combine a team of Central Florida architects, engineers, contractors and designers with about 1,500 canned goods? Canstruction – an annual competition where teams design and build structures made entirely from canned foods … all within an 8’x8’x8’ space. The competition will be sponsored by the American Institute of Architects Orlando and the Orlando Chapter of the Society of Design Administration

Orlando Fashion Square mall will house the exhibit from October 16 to October 23. On October 16, unique “Wonders of the World” will be on display, as well as, 8 school teams whose structures will reflect their school spirit. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

At the close of the exhibit, all of the food products used in the designs will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida for distribution to pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior programs and low-income daycares.

  1. Thank you so much for continuing this wonderful service!!! I have been a juror for several years and the process STILL always gives me a lift!

The groups are so creative and the cause, though it has struggled a bit in the last couple of years, always comes through to restore faith in humanity!!!
